He was working on the theory of a civilisation of gorillas - they would need the dexterity of such hands, and the strength of a primates limbs to make some of these wonders. He smiled as Asla’s scoof. She had seen bears, and the polar bear coat in their den. Sirius might be massive for a wolf, but there were many creatures bigger than him. Back in the old Empire, he had once seen an Elephant… he wished he could show Asla one.
When Asla jumped back, telling him of a threat, he growled, gently nudging her to the side - not that Asla needed much encouragement. She had run to him, to hide beneath his giant fur. It gratified him that his little one still looked to him for protection and comfort. Sometimes he felt she was entering a stage in her life when she wanted nothing but independence.
He peeked under the lower racks, and found the threat. He reached out, and gently touched the massive blue-eyed wolf that looked back at him, and he smiled. “Come and meet the wolf” he told his daughter, waiting for her to peek out and see that it was reflective glass. Giving back their reflection like still water.
