Black gold

Once again Hanako found herself beside the sea, sitting all dainty and proper with paws crossed as the sun slipped beneath the horizon. The sky was blaring mix of orange and red hues, similar to the spots that littered her coat. It was then she wondered if this was where she'd gotten the colours from, had she stolen them from a twilight sky? She smiled at the thought and her tail swished behind her, leaving streaks in the shimmering black sand.
Though she couldn't quite put her paw on it, there was something about the ocean that called out to her, provoking a feeling of longing she didn't quite understand. It was all rather silly, of course, and she quickly chalked it down to the fact that like any young girl she liked pretty things. But...well, she liked to daydream and though she couldn't remember much of her parents she knew for a fact that she didn't look like them. That for some reason or another she was different and maybe, just maybe she was like this for a reason. The sky and the ocean surely had nothing to do with it but again, a girl could dream right? That's all it was, harmless daydreams, idle thoughts that swam through her mind like fish in a stream.
It was almost strange how quiet and subdued she was, the last time she'd been on a beach she'd been prancing around without a care in the world. But now it seemed as though it'd be a waste to just let this moment pass by, to ignore the spectacle that was laid out before her in all its shining glory. Besides, it was getting late so it didn't seem like a good idea to get all exciteable and worked up before she settled down for the night. Instead, Hanako pulled in a long steadying breath as she inhaled the salty sea air. Of all of the places to be she was glad that she was here, that fate had nudged her down this path.
