Motif watched the silent understanding that passed between the wolf and bird, and felt her own soft smile on her lips. It was nice to see goodness in the world. The simple, yet wonderful things like friendship between two beings.

The darker parts of the conversation were still there, and Mo’s ears flattened a touch again. “I wish I could do the same” she cast her eye at the ground, admiring the green and growing things that had begun to take root at the base of the mountain. Now that the chill of winter was fading. It was easier than looking at the sweet girl's eyes. How could Motif explain how guilt and fear still ate away at her insides, when the bravery of Rhae sat spoken between them? It also meant she missed the other girl’s expression, and could not realise the admission was not a complete one.

“Of course, and if you ever need a friendly face, you can always find me at the borders” another timid smile, a fleeting thing, but warm for its duration on Motif’s face. She was meeting the girls eyes again now, at least for the moment.
