This was an experiment. Valdís wanted to see how far the pup could walk before he refused to go any more. She hadn't gotten anyone else's permission. She probably should've told Ásvor but she was hoping it would be a quick trick. Úlfr finally tuckered out once they made it through the Whispering Caves. At this point Valdís should've turned back but with the gulley and prairie ahead she just couldn't resist. Valdís pulled the boy onto her back and Embla used some straps of deer hide to fasten him there. He snoozed on her back as she travelled, thinking herself very clever… until she got to the prairie and needed a break where as the pup was rested, fresh, and full of more energy than she wanted to deal with.
