Valhallan Spring Tournament - Nolan vs Rhaegara

He'd enjoyed watching the fights thus far and now he realized it was his time to step into the ring himself. He grinned and trotted over to the edge of the ring before walking in to meet his opponent. He gave the woman a nod in a silent greeting and listened to the instructions that Aurielle gave them. Stay in the ring or you lose - that was easy enough to remember. He smirked at the Spirit's very dramatic start to their spar. He wasn't sure he'd ever have quite the flair for the dramatics that she had, but he appreciated the show of it considering the fact that there was an audience. Nolan quickly settled into his defenses and prepared himself for the signal to begin their fight. His muscles were tensed and ready to go for as soon as Aurielle let them loose. He took the brief second to assess the woman standing across from him. She was a fair bit shorter than him, but she had a stronger build compared to his more lanky form. It felt like they were a pretty even match in that regard since they both had advantages in certain areas. He also new they would be fairly even in skill since that's how the fights were paired. He hadn't yet actually gotten a win under his belt since everyone he had sparred with had been so much more experienced than himself. Perhaps now would be his chance to do that - as long as he could keep her from pushing him out of the ring. As soon as Aurielle yelled "fight" he sprang into action, deciding he wanted to get the advantage of going first. He took a few long, fast strides to close the distance between himself and Rhaegara, keeping himself light on his feet so he could get the most benefit out of his lighter build. At the last second he took one quick hop to his right so he could potentially put himself toward her left side. Since he knew that it was crucial to stay within the colored rocks that had been set up around the perimeter he didn't want to make himself too easy to topple or push so he kept as many of his paws on the ground and keep his center of balance as strong as possible. With that in mind, he only lifted his right foreleg as he turned toward her and attempted to hook his paw around the upper portion of her left leg so that he could attempt to pull that leg out from under her. He also reached for her scruff with open jaws so that if he was successful he would have another point of contact to attempt pulling her to the ground.
