The yearling found himself wandering again, his paws carrying him closer to Abaven once more. He couldn’t get his friend Motif out of his head. After she’d slept beside him that night he’d seen her, and how she’d been so kind to make sure he made it home. Plus they were friends, she was easily the closest friend he had. Being with her made him not feel so lonely without his dad. Motif made him feel brave above all else. Like he could do anything with her beside him. He loved the feeling of courage it gave him.

He didn’t lose his thought of her as he walked, finding himself again at the lake. With spring nearly turned to summer the air was filled with lightning bugs. There were blooms in the trees and wild flowers scattered everywhere. The silver marked boy leaned back onto his haunches and wished immediately his friend was here to watch with him.
