Beat was at a loss. On one side Star was going after an injured cow. On the other side, Aslatiel was going after an injured buck. What did he do? After halting for but a moment, Beat rushed towards Star. His cow could still move whereas Aslatiels wouldn't be going anywhere fast.

The big boy caught up with the other wolf and launched himself at the cow. Teeth snapped at one heel and the caribou went stumbling onto the ground. He leaped upon it, holding the struggling creature down so Star could finish it off. Only when it was dead would he go to help Aslatiel.
