She’d descended into this cave, to the point where she was the only source of light left, save for the strands of glowing white mane Ayodele had tucked over crags in the walls, marking the way back, though Aurielle could have easily followed her own scent back.

She’d settled by a spring-fed pool, wondering if she was below Valhalla and the hillock. The water was cold, clear, and sweet.

She was surrounded by darkness, the only light her own fur, and her eyes were closed, taking in the deep, stony sepulcher of the cave. Even bats hadn’t ventured this far down. It was somehow clean, untouched until she’d come in. And it was quiet, save for the trickle of the spring, and her own heartbeat and breathing.

Ayodele made slight noises, too, not too fond of the cave and how deep they were. Loshir was invisible in the lighting, only the faint glint of the Spirit’s light touching his pale eyes now and then, but he kept beyond the reach of her luminescence for the most part, keeping watch while the woman meditated on the pack and all that had passed in the years since she’d become the Archangel and then Spirit of the pack.
