He was pleased to meet the two Outlanders he’d not had a chance to meet yet, nodding to both with a welcoming grin, adding to Rhaegara, “I’ve been okay. Glad to see you with us.”
His ears perked as Aurielle laid out the plan for this gathering, and rose to his paws, tail swinging in a lazy wag as he ran his eyes over the three chosen to be his opponents. He winked at Ardyn and Kati, and then the word dropped on his ears. “Go.”
He dropped quickly into readiness as the participants burst into motion. Rhae arrowed for him, and he spotted her eyes aiming for his front. He let her come to him, and as her teeth aimed for behind his left arm-pit, he dropped his front end suddenly, left side lower than the right as his other three legs took his weight, the left foreleg becoming light and mobile. Her teeth scored on the leather armor above his elbow instead, harmless and he was in motion a half-second later.
Cairo swept his left foreleg forward, aiming to hook behind Rhaegara’s left front paw and jerk it toward him as his head tilted to his right, jaws parting and aiming to lunge for Rhae’s cheek, aiming to clamp his teeth shut on a good mouthful of skin and fur just behind her jawline and gain some control over her head, thrusting off from his back legs and seeking to get his right foreleg over her back, coming in at a slight angle and hoping to knock her off her paws with a slam of his chest into her right shoulder.
He kept his ears alert, though folded back, listening to the others around them, ready to move if someone came at him, though it looked like each had chosen one target of their own rather than ganging up on one individual. Above the melee, Chrystal floated, dipping on the air currents, waiting for a moment to strike or defend. Enito had caught up in time to hear the layout of the day, and he held back until he was needed, or until he spotted an opening.
