When he turned back around to the red-dotted boy, it was clear that the steam had mellowed out. So here was the secret to melting Hika’s heart and stripping away all his defences - throw him head first into a hot steaming bath. With a contented sigh, now that his adrenaline was slowing and the play fight was over, he sunk further into the pool. Forgetting the soap for a moment as he let the heat roll over his entire body. It soothed the parts of him that ached from bouts of spars, and tossing Hika around. He didn’t stay relaxed too long. It was awkward against the side of the pool with his mud-junked wings that couldn’t currently close neatly at his back. He twisted about, trying to reach the back of himself, with the soap in his maw. It didn’t taste amazing, and just as he twisted, he accidentally squeezed the soap too hard. It went shooting out and sank immediately into the water. “Oh, shoot!” he cried, and dived after it. |
