Naiche made his way towards the little gathering. He hadn’t been up close when Magnus spoke but he still caught most of it. Magnus had resigned his rank over to Magnus. Magnus had beaten him to reaper but Naiche had pulled a close second. Naiche had imagined with time he would have taken the position once the older wolf had aged just a bit more. Yet already he had lost the rank and instead of to Naiche it was too Asla.
That was unexpected.

Naiche got in closer to the group. His eyes shifted from Magnus to Asla and for a bit the thought of challenging her for it hung in his mind. That had been his future position that she had just snatched up. The moment past and he found no desire in him to take the rank. “Congratulations, Reaper.” The formal voice he never gave her for princess offered for reaper. A public setting and a raised status it seemed the thing to do.
