Shuriken sighed softly and dug at the snow, both searching for the gem and heaving at the cold wet snow. It was the old kind of snow that had thawed slightly and refroze. A little heavy, wet, and easy to compact into balls. As she dug she barely heard her sister speak, but her mismatched ears still swiveled to listen. She spoke of dragons, and as Ike was often reminded, she held a dragon’s spirit. A strong one, because its traits so easily showed through to her physical body. Eagle talons, carp whiskers, and she had tiny antler nubs. Maybe one day she would no longer be this clumsy terror.
Too caught up in her own thoughts Kiyohime didn’t even notice as Kit formed a snowball beneath her paws. Dig dig digging away when she felt the ball collide into her dark hip. The tiny child jumped in surprise as Kitsune nearly simultaneously ate the snow at her paws. Ike couldn’t help herself. At the same time she offered a paw to help her sister get up she was also falling to pieces laughing her little head off.
