my shallow heart

He watched her expression fall slightly as his eyes lifted to meet hers. Duchess tilted her head ever so slightly as her dual toned gaze fixed to his own. Dark red marked ears slicked to his skull as she looked deep into his very soul. The entirety of his emotions lingered right behind his eyes, and if he didn’t know any better Indigo would have said she was picking out each one. The girl was silent and moved slowly, lifting a tiny dark paw to Indigo’s cheek. He moved on instinct, naturally leaning in to her soft touch.
Indigo closed his eyes and listened quietly as she spoke again, absolving him of any perceived wrongdoing. He was surprised that he didn’t want her to move away as her paw fell. Indy opened his eyes as she motioned for him to walk beside her. Indigo was already sure he wouldn’t be finding any plant life here, and the added disappointment of being empty handed wouldn’t help the feelings bubbling up inside.
He sighed internally and lifted himself to his paws, offering no argument. He needed to walk, being out here helped to clear his mind, but mostly made room for more self-pity. Indy followed after her, his pace a crawl as he could easily overtake her small stride. He couldn’t help the way his eye continued to catch her, and for a while he wondered if she really was some kind of fairy folk. The way she looked into him instead of at him, the sparkling way her coat flowed over her delicate build. A question formed on his lips but he couldn’t quite get the words to form on his lips, so he simple asked: ”Why?” Why was she here, why was she being so sweet to him, why did she care about a sad stranger on the beach? Why did she take the form of an angel?
