Watching Art’s angry, departing form reminded him of something he had been desperately trying to forget. His fearless anger and need to protect his family. Standing up to the Warlord, despite his size and abilities. It was so much like Azure, that it forced that hurt to the forefront.

Feeling whipped to the bone, the Warlord placed a paw over his eye. He wanted to die. He wanted not to have lost what he had, or at the least been allowed to be left where they had lain. Zee. Azure. It was not right. It was not just.

“...No” he said at last to Tamsyn. “I won’t leave and let that fester.” Moving like he was a hundred years old, he leaned forward and kissed Tamsyn on the forehead. “And he’s not entirely wrong. Letting you come to harm is another regret I hold.” He stepped away from Tamsyn again for a moment, and swallowed past the ache in his throat. “Am I his godfather?” he asked her quietly, before he went, regardless of her answer, to find the boy.
