Jane's initial optimism over her mother returning anytime soon, but as now weeks and months passed that trust started to dilute into a more grey scheme. She wasn't feeling well, feeling left behind, unwanted. But her father's loving care for her and her siblings managed to avoid her from thinking that on a sick level.
