A Mammoth Task [THE HUNT]

Brandr kept an eye out for Ambi. As the great black eagle settled down nearby he knew that Allegro and Corvus were in position. Now it was time to spook the heard. Brandr tipped back his head and howled loudly, calling the others into the haunting chorus. He lowered his head, eyeing the herd as the became more alert, shuffling back and forth uncertainly. He raised his voice again, calling until he decided it was time to charge.
"Alright, let's go!" He tilted his head and grabbed one of the sticks with flaming pitch on the end that had been set upright in the snow. He darted toward the nearest mammoth. It started to turn toward him and he whipped his head to the side, slapping the flaming pitch into the creatures leg. The jolt of pain and instinctive fear of fire caused a strange rumbling to shake loose from the creature as it turned and started to run. Spirits they were huge!
Brandr darted toward another, urging them to run before he spied the beast that would make the best target. It was an elderly creature, moving as if it had arthritis in its lower back. His tail flagged to Ambi who grabbed the pitch stick from his mouth and flew higher to burn the older mammoths face, encouraging it to head for the cliff. "This one!" Brandr called. "Let's go for this one!" He snapped at the ankle, fangs tearing out hair and breaking skin. It wasn't enough to do serious damage but pain was pain, and pain would allow them to drive these beasts forward.
