As evening encroached over Boreas and the sun slunk slowly beyond the western horizon, casting the sky in a rich sea of navies, purples, and reds, Satira sat on a small hill just outside her family's den. She knew her mother would be calling for her to come inside soon, but she couldn't. Not yet, anyway. Not until she'd gotten to see all the sparkly lights in the sky. Asla had told her and her brother stories about the beauty of the nighttime sky, but she'd only gotten to see a glimpse of it once the day prior. She wanted to see it properly and see all the wonder and splendor her mother had regaled her with. As day faded into night and light slipped into darkness, Satira waited with an anxious sway to her tiny pudgy body. Her pale blue eyes were transfixed on the darkening sky, waiting for the lights to appear. The moon already hung large in the sky, reflecting a beautiful silver light, but there were still no stars!
Pouting a little, Tira stomped an impatient paw on the ground. Hurry up, lights! Mom's gonna get mad at me if you don't hurry up! she thought to herself. A few more minutes crept by, but there was still too much light, the sun clinging on for as long as possible in the late summer evening. Fireflies had begun to appear, and although she also liked the flashing little insects, she was more interested in the lights in the sky. If they ever bothered to show up, that is!
