A moment later he heard paws against the stone floor and Syanna's distinctive form appeared around the divider, confirming she was there with her words. He spotted the sling wrapped around her leg, but she was here and most certainly in better shape than he was in so he was able to breathe a little sigh of relief. He gave her a similar, small smile, the pain suddenly feeling worth it again. A large chunk of the day before and through the night felt blurry and vague, but he very distinctly remembered how worried he had been over her, so afraid that he wasn't going to be able to protect her and that she'd end up hurt. He was so grateful that didn't happen and he was able to fend off that saber cat so all she had to deal with was a sprained ankle. He never would have forgiven himself if that hadn't been the case.

He waited as she got a bowl and some water, his ears swiveling toward her when she started to speak, but didn't finish her sentence. He could see the guilt on her face and his brows pulled together with a little bit of confusion. Why was she guilty? She didn't do any of this on purpose and had even tried to stop him. He had gotten himself into this, but he wouldn't change a thing and he wouldn't take it back. Well, besides maybe wishing he had been faster and able to dodge that last bite. His ribs fucking hurt. Other than that though, he was proud of himself and so very relieved and happy that she wasn't hurt. She pushed the bowl of water over to him and started giving him a list of questions about how he was feeling and what he needed, but he didn't want to think about himself just yet.

He lifted his oversized paw and caught her paw as it retreated from pushing the bowl closer, holding it under his against the bed as he gave her a little grin as his eyes caught hers. "I'm okay," he managed, he voice still rough and quiet, but there. He of course didn't really have a concept of just how bad he had been or how dangerous that bite had ended up so he didn't know her worry was justified, but he still wanted to help calm her down if he could. He gave her paw a squeeze and let it go, focusing his attention on the water he was offered. Lifting his head just enough to tip his muzzle over the edge of the bowl, he took a few long drinks, the relief of it on his dry mouth and throat far outweighing how difficult and how hard it was to move. He laid his head down again, giving her a tired, thankful smile.

"Pain meds would be great," he agreed now that his voice wasn't quite so rough, though it was still quiet since he didn't feel like he could take in a full breath without his whole side protesting. "Maybe some food too, if you don't mind... There's a room down the hall - a cellar where some food from the recent hunts are kept. Get some for yourself too."
