Stormy weather with chance of bright future

The rain had just started where one could spot where the occasional drop landed by how it slightly darkened the surface it landed on. Misery ignored it and continued a lazy patrol of the border. His mind had been roaming and so his thoughts really got more attention than the weather. The rain picked up enough to a more steady yet light pace to it. Misery was bored but wasn’t thinking up anything that really seemed entertaining in his mind. He could spar which was good for sharpening his skills but honestly he wasn’t one of the brutes that could think of nothing better to do than fight all day long. He could continue patrolling or go playing friendly with others but none of it sounded exciting at the moment. The young wolf was tired of being a pup in training , finding the constraints of youth overly tight. Looking past the pack border he looked out at the wide world past their home. There was an entire world out there, and so many wolves he had never met. Misery liked figuring out how others thought but it grew boring to always focus on the same wolves day in and day out. Misery belonged to a pack that had its own spy ring and he wanted to be the best of them. He could hardly spy on anything useful while here. He was going to be a year old soon and felt more mature every day in his mind. Of course, to be fair, he had felt he was old enough since the time the notion came to him when he was still falling into snow piles as a smaller pup. The distant sky turned brighter for a short moment as lightning dancing along the clouds, a few heartbeats later came the thunder. It wasn’t on top of them but it was nearby. Misery gave the weather a moment of attention now then turned to head back towards the den at a leisurely pace. The storm wasn’t coming towards them so much as passing by a bit to the west. As far as he could tell the worst they would get was some wind and wet coats. The young wolf had spent enough time playing in the snow when he was younger to be perfectly fine with a wet coat, and now it had all the nice guardhairs to keep the rain from soaking through the fur. The rain picked up its intensity as he neared the den. Sure, the dangerous part of the storm might not be hitting them but there was a point at which even he chose to get out of the rain. Would mom be in the den with all the crazy rain? Izzy wanted to talk with her about when he could start actually being a great spy. If need be he’d call for her but this did seem like a good day to be near some place dry. Misery grinned as he imagined that meant Wendigo was finding someway to get even more drenched than he was. Maybe instead he’d try to stay dry by jumping into the lava pit. Somehow if anyone could survive it, that’d be Wendigo. The thought gave Misery a soft chuckle as he stepped inside.
