Her opponent seemed good-spirited and Kaija decided all at once that coming here had been a good idea. She was strong and could make a great warrior if she chose to put her mind to it, the yearling was sure of that. Kaija was all grins as they greeting each other, clearly in a good mood as they decided to engage in a practice spar. She was confident enough in her own abilities, even given her lack of real experience and total lack of equipment to help her. She didn't need to be burdened down with things, she could do just fine without all of that, and she was determined to prove it.

Kaija seemed to mirror Briar's movements, crouching into a more defensive stance. Though she had little in the way of real training she was a decent enough observer and she thought her reflexes were quite good. She tucked her tail slightly and spread her legs out for balance as Briar charged toward her. She made to veer around her while her companion swooped toward her face. Her instinct was to duck away from the bird, but by doing so she knew she'd push right into Briar's bite... which happened anyway. She felt jaws clamping down on her back left leg, almost immediately causing her balance to falter. It took a great deal of energy to redistribute her weight to keep her upright. Instead of trying to pry out of Briar's grasp she did something probably stupid, instead lifting her other weight and aiming a kick to the other girl's face - no doubt also sending herself down hard to the ground in the process.
