A Quick Nap

Being considerably shorter than the male wolf, Audra kept up a brisk walk to stay shoulder to shoulder to him, keeping a two feet distance between them. Her ears twisted as she listening to the soft slapping of his pack, the rhythmic thud of his monkey's friend stick behind him, and even the far-off flap of his bird's wings. As night began to fall, stars began to peek out from behind rolling clouds. Her coat puffed out slightly, bringing in the warmth that the movement of their paws brought. Listening intently to his words, her mind stilled as he described his pack and their duties. Their values sounded perfect for her, but the fighting part was intimidating. Healing, yes, she could easily and quickly learn medicine and how to care for injuries. But fighting? Audra swallowed hard at the thought of herself bringing harm to someone else. Of course, if it was necessary to fend off a predator or catch small game, that she understood. Eating was important and protecting oneself went without a doubt. She wasn't sure she could fight someone though. Thankful that he changed the subject and asked about her interest in healing, she was glad she didn't have to bring up the topic about fighting skills. She smiled in his direction with a nod of her head. The satchel around her neck felt warm in the evening chill, pride washing over her. "Yes, I-I want to be a really good healer one day. I want to help others," Audra responded quietly, slightly shy about admitting her passions. She still felt hesitant though when he mentioned that any were welcome if they made an effort to the pack's wellbeing. How could he be so sure that the rest of his pack would welcome her? If she did want to join? What if they didn't like her? What if she wasn't good enough? Her smile faded into a small grimace as her mind raced. "Your pack sounds wonderful, and I am a quick learner, but..," Adura's words trailed off as she wasn't how to finish her sentence. This all felt like it was happening so fast. What if it was a trap? How could it be a trap? He was too nice. He shared food with me. The thoughts continued to roll around in her head as they walked through the brush. |
