Metal? How could something considerably heavier than wood float? There was little to be known about humans, only lingering stories that were no doubted twisted by the ages, but were they really so ingenious that they could create such things? Shape the world as they pleased. Perhaps it was a good thing they were long gone, never to return, as who knew what they could have wrought.
Pursing his lips, Hattori paced over to the middle of the deck and examined the trap door below. It had a metal loop connected to a bolt, more than wide enough for Hattori to slip his paw in and pull it open. It creaked and groaned, the old wood protesting but ultimately caved to Hattori's will as he prised the door wide open. A rush of musty air filled his nose, salt and dust intermingling to form a distasteful scent. Old places were undeniably interesting but not always the most pleasant to explore.
"Are you coming?" He asked, gesturing to the level below.
