A firefly-watching spy?!

Misery was raised to be a creature of the night. His dark pelt with silvery top worked great at winter in night where the silver blended with the snow while the rest of him could all but disappear in the shadows. Tonight he had left the den and made his way to explore the rustling thicket. If he was to be a master spy someday he needed to sharpen his skills. This would be a great way to prove himself to mom. Slip onto someone else land, find a quiet spot to lay low and see if he could learn anything.
As one who spent most of his time in the dark though he knew things were off. Fireflies didn’t belong in winter. They had shown up in summer but then been around less come fall. So what was with the obvious speckling lights of fireflies a short distance away? Their was a bit of wind tonight and as it blew threw this area it caused the tree’s and branches to rustle, sometimes the wind itself seemingly having a moaning pitch to it.
Misery loved it. The setting had an eeriness to it that boded fun, hopefully. An eerie setting was meaningless without a few ingredients. Someone else soaking it in would be a good start but did he really want to go back into the pack land to find someone to enjoy it with? Wendigo could be fun for this sort of thing but he was already out here and going back risked the threat of missing out if the fireflies left or the wind stilled itself. Hopefully some of the wolves from this pack would show up and entertain him. Hopefully it freaked them out so he could laugh silently.
Misery continued creeping towards the fireflies, noticing it seemed almost brighter around them but fireflies could only give off so much light. Was it a trick of some sort? Was it something about this area that attracted them? Perhaps the pack had some secret to it that caused this?
