When she had made it home, she realised she had, indeed, picked up a spider as she went crashing through the mangroves. The Archer had never seen anything quite like it, even the joints on its legs carried a hint of blue glow. Maybe it had been gorging itself on the fireflies and that was just a byproduct of it’s current diet? Either way, she thought it would probably be bad luck to let it stay in her den. Other wolves might have crushed the thing, or just let it go outside, but Sedna not only felt guilty for ruining it’s lovely web in her momentary panic, she had also carried it miles away. What if it had a little spider family back in the mangroves?
So instead, she found herself weaving through the willows, the arachnid perched atop her skull as she tried to find a new home for it. They weren’t bad or evil by nature, and they served a purpose. Maybe if she helped this one get set up somewhere new, it would make a dent in the cloud of glowing insects that seemed intent on crawling into her coat? Of course, one spider wouldn’t make that much of a difference, but if there were heaps…
She felt a spindly leg tap against her ear and she slowed her steps, Was this where it wanted to get off? She experimentally tipped her head up to the nearest tree and the spider scuttled along her muzzle and up into the tree, leaving a trailing of web across her nose. Her face scrunched up as she sneezed, sending a cloud of glowing bugs into the air before they settled back in her fur. Sedna growled in frustration. Why wouldn’t they just leave her alone?
