Azure remained a quiet presence at his father’s side as wolves trickled in and seated themselves to await their Warlord’s word. He thought he caught a few confused glances when wolves noticed he stood beside the alpha, though Azure did not linger on any member’s face long enough to know for sure. His soon-to-be-wife, however, did catch his eye and he resisted giving the koi-wolf a smile. The healer took a place beside her and Azure could at least be confident that she would be comfortable through the meeting.
Sirius began speaking as the last few wolves trickled in - his newest servant included - and rather than give the Warlord his attention he looked out at the crowd to gauge their responses as the meeting started. The mention of the changes Boreas had suffered this winter drew Azure’s lips into a grim line. With any luck, their round-table alpha meeting might bring to light some answers and not more questions.
The warlord covered the remainder of the topics they’d discussed prior - including that of his unborn children, at mention of which he offered Hanako the ghost of a smile - and then moved on, opening the floor to allow Azure to speak to the crowd.
“Thank you, Father.” He began, tipping his head down briefly in respect. To the gathered wolves he continued. “I know many of you may be disappointed to see me standing here beside our Warlord. Some of us have a rocky history, some of us have no history at all. Regardless of your personal feelings or my personal feelings, know that I’m here for the Armada as a whole and I will do what I can for each of you.” His gaze flitted over Magnus, Sedna, a few of his younger siblings, and Mortis, all whom he felt might be less-then-overjoyed to see him promoted. “Now then - I’ve heard both complaints and excuses lately as to how the Armada has handled training. I know some of you have wished for mentors, teachers, and that we have failed to provide proper incentive to drive your education. We have lost many capable warriors over the last year and will lose more in the coming seasons, and with whatever is going on in the world it is important now more than ever that the pack is ready to defend itself.” Azure’s muzzle tipped up toward the sky, where the full moon hung and had hung for nearly a week.
“Seeing as we no longer have a General, I will take over for the meantime the assignment of students to their teachers. Some pairings may be less-than-ideal for you, but these wolves are all your family and I expect you to get along regardless.” The brief mention of Naiche’s departure crinkled his muzzle and he sighed, continuing on. “I will be watching those who put their best efforts into this, and suggesting to my father who might be ready to step into a higher rank. Lastly, to any wolves who believe they might be ready for a promotion now, you may request a challenge to myself or Sirius to prove your worth. Be forewarned, we do not expect you to challenge before you feel ready. If you disappoint us enough, we may find that the rank you deserve is lower than the one you are currently in.”
It was all that Azure had prepared to say, and he glanced toward his father for silent approval. “If there are any concerns or questions, please voice them now.” He added.
