With each passing day in Auster, Laeta was settling in well. She felt her body steadily recover, in more ways than one. As padded out of her bedroom and down the steps, she realized she had the energy to go down all three flights without stopping and catching her breath halfway through. The rare sunlight filtered through the miniscule holes in the rock structure of the castle, making it appear as if the woman’s obsidian fur was dotted with luminescent specks. The roped muscle in her limbs was beginning to appear more solidly balanced with her lithe build, her ribs less visible. She no longer looked unhealthily emaciated, thanks to the good food and exercise. She’d even had the strength to hunt and provide some nourishment for the pack, and thus fulfilling her long-term goal of finding purpose. Still, such endeavors still left her winded, moreso than normal. Perhaps this would be her new normal, she realized, descending stealthily down the main staircase. She considered taking another look outside the walls to see if she’d missed anything around the vicinity, but instead, she turned down a corridor and began venturing deeper into the castle’s stone labyrinths, partially hoping she’d get lost in the ancient human structure. It was a fascinating endeavor. Meeting more pack members wouldn’t be so bad, either.

Though still expressionless upon her face, her ruby eyes glittered and spoke a thousand words, more than her lips could ever speak. What a wonderful path her life was heading down, indeed. There was hope.
