Her vision started to blur and refocus as did her attention to what was going on. She tried to rest, but her body wasn't quite letting her. She had a feeling she was going to have to do this alone, and honestly, it was a feeling that terrified her. When she opened her eyes, she felt like she was in a dream. The two pups that had been born weren't at her side and a bit of panic took over. Had she imagined that? Had she fallen asleep and was dreaming? Her attention was drawn to the fireflies that gathered and lit a short path to a table with a hooded figure behind it. He spoke to her, and her ears pressed back. Who was this? Why was he here? Her eyes fell on the table with items on it, and she was confused by his presence. His warning felt ominous, and with her heart pounding and adrenaline going, she wasn't sure what to do. She was alone. Nobody was here to comfort her, and she just wanted her pups to be born healthy and safe. "Please...I just want my pups to come safely into this world...after everything, they're all I'll have left." Desperation touched her voice as her molten gaze pleaded with the stranger. At the age she was now, she felt there was really nothing special or extraordinary about her anymore. If there ever was. "If you could find it in your heart to bless them, even just one of them, that's all I could ask for.." She was hesitant to ask, but what more did she have to lose? She was nearing the end of her life anyway, perhaps a couple more years and then these children would be on their own, too... |
