Abaven... Academy?
12-01-2021, 07:47 PM
Now that the oozening is over, Theory has decided to further devote herself and the pack to what she's always cared most deeply about: the education and stewardship of Boreas' youth. After a tumultuous younger life, she is determined to provide all young wolves from any alignment and pack a holistic and thorough education so that they can become well-rounded individuals who go on to better serve their packs, stay on and become professors, or return to the maiming/fighting/screeching they were always destined for.
Yep, that's right - any pack, from Aerie to Valhalla and all of the letters in between - are welcome to send their youths to Abaven for a time to learn and improve their skills. Older wolves are also welcome to visit and learn, stay for a spell, or become faculty. Have you been itching for a reason for your Auster-based yearling to meet and greet with kids from the North? Now's your chance! Have you yearned and dreamed of a college AU where your character can attend class, sneak into co-ed dorms, and cause a ruckus? Wish granted. There are infinite possibilities for drama, shenanigans, and more (take a peek at those anti-fraternization rules).
Abaven is retaining its name and its place in the East, but they are forfeiting Serpent Plains to take over Crystallum Cliffs and transform the cliffside into a warren of training rooms, classrooms, and dorms for visiting students.
Below you will find the new ranks, still subject to change, and some new rules. Theory will be visiting each pack to explain their change in focus and invite them to visit and see for themselves.
Tier 1:
Head Faculty
Headmaster/mistress - This wolf determines the prime directive of the school, develops the curriculum, and makes sure everything is running smoothly. They liaise directly with packs across Boreas to spread the offer of instruction without judgement. This position can be shared between two wolves.
Master/Mistress - Heir of the school. They learn directly beneath the current headmistress to understand the ins-and-outs of how to lead and instruct.
Tier 2:
Deans of Study
Professor Emeritus - The equivalent of a beta position. This wolf will be expected to wear many hats, including recruitment, assisting with running group lessons, and working directly with the Dean of Student Affairs to ensure that the students are content and getting their needs met. Disputes should be brought to this wolf before going directly to the headmaster.
Dean of Physical Studies - Max of 1. This wolf assists directly with the development of fighting, hunting, and healing classes. They will work directly with the professors in those respective departments to develop curriculum and will be expected to assist in the classroom, recruit students, and more.
Dean of Metaphysical Studies - Max of 1. This wolf assists with the development of navigation, general intellect, and extracurricular classes. They will work directly with the professors in those respective departments to develop curriculum and will be expected to assist in the classroom, recruit students, and more.
Tier 3:
Professors and Dean of Students

If a teacher is slacking in their duties, they will be asked to step down until they are able to return to teaching at full capacity. Any wolf holding this position must have an advanced or higher skill level in their field.
Hunting Professor - Max of 2. These wolves primarily conduct hunting skill instruction and will be expected to hold one-on-one lessons as well as at least 1 group lesson per season. Any wolf holding this position must have an advanced or higher skill level in their field.
Navigation Professor - Max of 2. These wolves primarily conduct navigation skill instruction and will be expected to hold one-on-one lessons as well as at least 1 group lesson per season. Dean of Students - Max of 1. This wolf takes care of the dorm area where visiting students sleep, socialize, and spend their time when not in classes. They are a den mother of sorts and made available as a resource to students to air their grievances to and assist with daily life when you’re far away from home. This wolf works directly with the Professor Emeritus to make sure everything is running smoothly.
Tier 4:
Student Body and Adjunct Instructors
Student - Unlimited. These wolves come from far and wide to study at the institution. While it is encouraged that these wolves are typically between the ages of 1-3, any wolf is welcome to come and stay as long as they’d like to learn what they can. Students are not segregated into groups of study and are encouraged to attend any and all lessons they may be interested in.
Adjunct Instructor - Unlimited. These wolves may not be an expert in their field, but they’re here to learn as well as teach what they can. They may study directly underneath a professor to become an official instructor when the criteria has been met.
Tier 5:
Youth
Youth - Unlimited. These wolves are under one year of age and may be born at the school or young wards (6 months - 1 year) sent here by other packs to learn. Their instruction is more catered towards young minds, but they are encouraged to spectate any lessons they would like.

Youth - Unlimited. These wolves are under one year of age and may be born at the school or young wards (6 months - 1 year) sent here by other packs to learn. Their instruction is more catered towards young minds, but they are encouraged to spectate any lessons they would like.
Rules -
- First and foremost, the school will remain a completely neutral place. Wolves from all packs are welcome and encouraged to come and learn. Pack politics should be put aside when you come to study. An act of war upon the school may bring down the wrath of all packs who send their members and children here to study.
- Discipline hearings will be conducted if you bring discord into the classroom. Do not fight among your fellow students - we are here to learn.
- Wolves are not expected to stay within the school for their lifetime. It has been established to welcome all who wish to further their education. If they wish to stay and teach others and they are experienced in their field, they are more than welcome to.
- Different faculty positions can be created at any time. Anyone is free to approach the headmistress with a compelling idea for what should be added to the curriculum and it will be added if seen fit.
- Romance between faculty and students is explicitly forbidden. It will only distract you in the classroom. If consensual fraternizing is discovered, the faculty will be demoted and the student suspended for 1 IC season. If they wish to return, they can plead their case in front of the head faculty once their suspension has elapsed.
- If romantic or coercion of another nature is discovered from a wolf in a position of power, the teacher will be brought before a tribunal. If it is confirmed that the student has indeed been coerced into a relationship or a situation in which they feel uncomfortable, the offender will be challenged to a maim fight and the student will be asked whether they wish to remain or be sent home.
- All complaints should be brought forth to the Dean of Students and Professor Emeritus for discussion.
- Roundtable meetings amongst faculty should be expected several times an IC year.
