It had taken a great deal of work to begin with, but the hellish titan had managed to snag some scrap metal from one of the metal beasts that were mired in the dusty earth of the boneyard. That, combined with the strips of leather that he'd snagged from the stores that the band had been building up over the course of the season, would do just fine for his purposes. The boneyard had also been littered with a few sunbleached skeletons left behind from seasons and years past. Snagging a dozen or so fangs from long dead wolves had been child's play- once he'd actually located the skulls on the vast plain. With each passing week, his vision cleared infinitesimally. He was more certain that it was improving, because the lighting changes as he moved about were more clear than even before the raid. When he passed through a forest and out the other side, he could make out the bright sunlight as he emerged from the shade. Otherwise, he was still almost entirely blind. Only time would tell if he would regain his vision. Back in the safety and comfort of the grove, he dropped his materials at his paws and slumped heavily onto his belly. Time to get to work. This was going to take far longer than usual, since he'd be using his senses of touch and hearing to figure out most of what he was doing. Any maintenance or repairs to the final product could be done when he could see again, or when he swallowed his pride and asked for help. He'd already measured out the panels, and they were roughly the length of his forearms, though a few inches shorter if he had to guess. Perfect for bracers. That meant he would need a smooth stone to hammer them into shape, and that would take him a minute or two to find. Wasn't there a stream running through the grove.. somewhere? A long sigh pushed through his nostrils, and the infernal goliath shifted his ears to and fro, searching for the sounds of running water. After a few minutes, he latched onto the burbling of water in the trees, and set to plodding in that direction. A stone that had been smoothed by running water would be better suited to creating the rounded shape that a bracer would need to fit around the forelimb. The titan hummed a quiet tune to himself as he traipsed through the undergrowth, tracking the steadily increasing sounds of a stream coming from ahead. Ah, there it was. As the quiet rush of water reached a crescendo, he kept moving until his toes splashed into the crisp, cool water. Yet more time was needed to rifle around in the deeper parts of the stream until a paw-sized stone found its way into his path. Perfect. Smooth edges, roughly round in shape. He kept his paw atop it, and dunked his head below the water to grab it in his jaws. As he pulled his head free of the water, a grunt of surprise was all her could manage. Wow, that was surprisingly cold! His dark fur had dried by the time he returned to the spot where he'd left all of his goodies, and the giant flopped down onto his left side and pulled the first metal plate closer to himself. Time to get to work hammering it out! ((WC: 575)) speech |
