A Moment of Solitude

The sound of the newcomer's arrival was drowned out by the crash of the waterfall, so Larisa did not notice his presence until he made himself known. Without lifting her head she raised her eyes in his direction to take him in. He seemed friendly enough, his posture submissive and relaxed. Her gaze followed him as he approached the water's edge, her ear flicking to pick up the sound of his voice. He spoke in a strange manner, Larisa never having heard an accent like his before. Was he a local? He seemed comfortable in the surroundings, and did not smell as though he was from some far-off land. Larisa had been away for some time, though, and things can change very quickly.
The male started to behave erratically, moving quickly towards the water's edge. Larisa thought he was sure to fall in, before he gathered himself up and jumped in! Larisa immediately straightened up in surprise, just as the spray of water hit her full in the face. She recoiled from the water, shaking out her wet fur immediately. She huffed as she looked back to him, a glare on her face. "It was a nice day," she snarled through gritted teeth, her paws digging into the rocks and dirt and tail flicking in annoyance. "Idiot," she muttered to herself, as she rolled her eyes at his grinning face.
