Work Up an Appetite

The lowered antlers had Kione pick up his speed for a stride but then he slowed at her words.  Heck, the guy even paused, a big ol’ grin on his lips.  Mentally he did a quick count – one, two, three.  That was here chance! It was a real one and he had lost the advantage of a full-on charge.  “Done,”  That was her warning.

He had a training lesson with a horned wolf to get a feel for how they might fight.  One of the details had been about what one might do when the head was down to show off the horns.  Sure enough, getting in on that lesson with the other wolves had been worthwhile. Kione didn’t run straight at Naraca, instead of running around her.  He would aim for almost an entire circle about her.  With her horns out straight her eyes were lower and it limited how quickly her eyes could keep up.

The african wild dog had started running about her from her left side and would try to bite her right front shoulder from behind.  His bites were gentle things in this, little more than nips to show what he could have done.  So even if he connected there would be hardly any pain to it, just the pressure to prove it could have sunk his teeth in.
