Kestrel

Icy tendrils moved about the den, the warmth seeping away from her coat as her small body shivered. Kestrel stirred, the feeling waking her. She would stare through blurred vision, her eyes attempting to focus on the figures in front of her. Blinking several times, she realized that she somehow ended up a few feet away from her mother and her brothers on the cold ground. With drowsy movements, she turned her gaze outside to see that the world beyond the den looked grey and devoid of life. She had never woken up this early before, usually she was up very late staring at the stars. Then again, the dreams she had been having would become more vivid, thus waking her earlier then usual more and more everyday. She didn't mind though...late nights and early mornings were her favorite times. They were quiet. Just like her. She rose stiffly to her paws, a yawn spreading wide as she made her way outside into the cold grey world.

The sounds of the waves lapping onto the shore were music to her ears. She loved the ocean, it was all she knew in her short life. The girl wandered away from her den, away from the soft snoring of her brothers. She felt alone, even though everyone was there...just, something always made her feel alone. She wanted relief from the dreams she had every night, half of them lately had been nothing but nightmares, the other half...dreams she couldn't understand, but each one telling her some kind of message that she could not yet interpret. Several minutes later, she would find herself out on some rocks that extended out towards the water, staring out over the water as she sat. The ocean splashed and crashed against the large algae covered boulders, the soft call of gulls could be heard nearby as the dove for their meals in the open water. Taking in a deep breath, she inhaled the salty air as she stared out into the oceans vast endlessness.
