Duck Pond

Asmodeus was in a slump, but had agreed to attend the carnival regardless. Eli was nowhere to be found, his mother and father had fallen into despair, someone had to step up and show their face to the world on behalf of Aerie and Abraxas. A small part of him hoped he'd see Aoife, the wolf who'd quickly gone from stranger to best friend ever during their first festival together. He wanted to tell her about his new quills, about his sister's death, his uncle's absence. His thoughts were wandering and he nearly missed the gesture of the attendant running the duck pond, who'd been encouraging him to come play. Deus' muzzle wrinkled briefly, but he stepped up to the pond regardless. He doubted he was capable of having any real sort of fun, but at least he might win a prize to take home to his depressed mother. Deus reached forward, grabbing the first duck he saw and holding it up to the attendant for her appraisal.
