Athena holds on for the ride and what a ride it is. The gharial thrashes but she does not release her hold, giving the reptile an annoyed growl. The pup tells her to roll it over and the earthen wolf’s eyebrows shoot up. Roll it? Okay, here it goes. The next time it thrashes, Athena throws her weight to the side. Its head starts to pull over and she quickly adjusts her position so that her dark front legs wrap around the snout while her light back legs snake under the creature’s front legs. Throwing her weight to the side while pushing her back legs outward, Athena is able to get the gharial onto its side. It struggles mightily but she holds it down while the pup rushes in.
A flash of steel and amber eyes watch as the reptile is gutted. The entrails spill out into widening pool of blood and its fighting slows. Athena doesn’t release her hold until she is certain it is dead. Legs unwind and she shoves the reptile off before standing. Giving her earthen coat a shake, she grins widely as the small pup twirls her knife and says that was neat. The woman laughs with excitement as she says, “Neat? I would say that was amazing! You are braver than most adults I know! Maybe you can me some of your moves sometime… Killer.” Athena winks at the pup, the nickname Killer given as a sign of endearment. After all, what pup faces danger like that head on?
