Never Smile At A Crocodile

Fern advances, working to drive the crocodile back with her training sword. The pup comments on her lack of a steel sword and the gray girl groans inwardly. While a live sword would be very helpful right now, she knows this training is useful for when she does get one. If Fern can chase off a crocodile with a wooden sword, then it will pose less of a threat to her when she has a steel one. Still, they have an angry reptile hissing at them and the gray girl doesn’t want to get into the semantics of wooden vs steel swords right now.
Instead Fern tosses the cynical pup a wink, ready to show her what this sword can really do. The pup pokes the crocodile with her blade and earns the wrath of the reptile. Its wide mouth is open in a threatening gesture, the deep hiss that emanates from it signaling danger. Quickly, Fern rushes forward as the pup dances back, the crocodile’s head angled toward to smaller form. While the blade might not be live, the wooden point is still sharp and the gray girl slams it through the soft eye.
The eye pops, blood and ocular fluid spilling down the scaly cheek and Fern pulls the sword back. That gets its attention. Its large tail smacks toward her and the crocodile swings its head in her direction. The grey girl smirks at the angry reptile, forcing it to keep its good eye on her. Casting a glance toward the pup, her lips pull up into a smirk around the wooden handle. Fern dances with danger, working to keep the crocodile’s attention on her and give the pup an opening.
