Restless Soul

Chade could see anyone wanting to fight with Saracyn.  The guy was an ass and Ava seemed nice for a total clash of personalities.  Admittedly, Chade didn’t know either of them very well and who knew what they were like or how they really felt about things.  Still, she was much easier to get along with and at least acted like she cared and maybe she really did?  Her smile was at least enough to get a small smile from the depressed boy.

As Ava agreed to go hunt with him Chade’s smile brightened a bit more.  Hunting for a bear wasn’t quite as crazy when he had someone to help him.  It wasn’t that Chade couldn’t do his own part in a fight but admittedly it felt that two would make things much easier than one.  “Your mom and dad helped me fight a few bears at points.  I guess they’ve taken you out to kill bears also?  They’re really good at it.”  Putting his mind to something more positive definitely helped.  Chade still hurt inside but at least now there was a distraction.

Chade got up, trotting while staying on the edge of the island, “Do you get many predators on the island or do we need to cross to the mainland?” After a second adding with some determination to his voice, “a bear killed our sister,” it wasn’t ‘my’ sister, everything always came out as shared with Ry being a part of it.  “So, I like how it feels, killing them.”  It was better to blame the bear than when Chade blamed himself but it was both of their faults.  He liked no longer being the helpless puppy but instead the one who was truly the predator with the bear as his prey.  It wasn’t a thing he’d normally mention but that bear was very much on his mind considering how it had a part to play in what felt like his brother’s betrayal of such a secret.
