Fern hums as she works, the warmth of the spring sun and joy of the stoat helping to make her heart happy. A familiar voice rings through the air and the gray girl lifts her gaze from the post she is working on to see the larger form of her friend, Serenity. A chuckle bubbles out at her friend’s words and she nods in agreement, saying, “I was being to wonder if you were real or my guardian wolf that only shows up to save my butt.” Her voice is light and the tone teasing but Fern had often wondered what her friend got up to when they weren’t fighting predators. Serenity offers her help and the gray girl says, “I would love some help. I am checking the fence for rotted wood and replacing the rotten ones with fresh boards.” Stepping away from the fence to move to fresh wood, Fern points out the slots on the new poles and boards, says, “They have all been filed and chiseled so that they can be slotted together easily.” Suddenly, Puff runs up to Serenity, the small stoat standing up to say, “And, if you get bored, you can come play with me!” Fern smiles and gives a small shake of her head as Puff bounces off again. The gray girl gestures for Serenity to follow her to the fence as she asks, “Do you know what wood rot looks like?” "Fern Lark" | "Puff" |
Fern has a female stoat companion named Puff. She is always nearby.
