Jams And Jelly Season

A basket is clutched lightly in Fern’s jaws, her gray form snaking in and out from the berry bushes. Eyes inspect each branch carefully, looking for all the ripe ones that are hiding among the young berries. She stands in front of a blackberry bush, picking off the ones she finds acceptable. She hopes to gather enough of the different fruits to make a wide variety of jams for the reception. Fern has a sweet for fresh jams and biscuits and she hopes to add it to the menu. Once done with blackberry’s, she moves on to a different bush, this one filled with bright red raspberries. Mouth waters as her eyes roam over the fat berries, greedily picking them as fast as she can.
