not maybe, definitely

She shouldn’t have been entertaining the thought of more than what they had right now, she shouldn’t have ever let herself this close to him. Venom never should have slept with him. Even through the should not haves she couldn’t bring herself to regret this moment. His arms wrapped protectively and possessively around her, their lips nearly touching as they whispered quietly to one another. The length of her body pressed to his as she lay languidly down his belly. Maverick gazed down at her with an adoration she wasn’t sure she had ever felt like she belonged like she did in his arms right now. It was yet to be seen if this was some fluke to behold. She didn’t know if this kind of contentment, this happiness, would be recreated.
She didn’t know what she was doing, giving herself to him like this when there was only one logical outcome. They were too different, their lives were incompatible. She was a free spirit, she was tied to her responsibilities. Yes her heart ached for him. It wasn’t just the loneliness, she felt the connection between them as her sunset gaze lingered on his vibrant blue eyes. She spoke, but she wasn’t sure he believed or really understood what she was saying. Why should he? It was nonsense thinking she could just cart him back to Ashen and pretend she had a husband again?
Even as she said it she regretted it, all the liquor and cannabis in the world couldn’t cover that feeling. She buried her features into the thick fur of his neck as he questioned her deeply. As he should. She just wasn’t thinking straight, that had to be the root of it. His voice was incredulous, and her cheeks flushed as she tried to take it back. Their time together would be ruined with her errant thoughts. She didn’t know how to answer him, she had meant it but she felt foolish for it now.
Before she could do anything he questioned her again and she peeked up at him. He amusement in his voice was infectious as he asked about what kind of position he’d take in Ashen. If she would be bringing him home for a rather specific purpose. She couldn’t help the chuckle he brought from her. After her preposterous notion it was a completely acceptable answer. "You don’t seem too disappointed in that outcome.” Venom tried to tease him enough that they could just forget she had said anything. Even if the thought of returning to her cold palace rooms alone chilled her. "I am the Empress, I can make accommodations.” She went on, even when she knew she’d already gone too far. Maybe she was desperate, and this was just her cry for help.
