Come Together

Fern looks to the group giving them a reassuring smile before whispering, “Okay, let’s get a little closer.” As the group moves toward the grazing tapir, the gray girl shifts to outward, slowly working her way around the tapir’s right side while remaining unnoticed. Once the group is as close as they dare to get, Fern gives the others a quick glance to make sure they are ready. A small dip of her head is the only warning the others are given before pale paws pull the gray girl from her hiding place.

Silently she races toward the large, pig-like creature, aiming to get between it and the undergrowth in front of it. Luckily the tapir seems to be engrossed in the ripe berries and doesn’t notice the hunting group until they are almost on top of it. A snarl erupts from Fern and the tapir squeals in alarm as the wolf’s gray form cuts off the underbrush as a viable option for retreat. With a snap of her jaws, the prey wheels around to retreat only to find the rest of the hunting party waiting to bring it down.
