Experience told him that eventually patrols would go back to being mundane, dutiful things, but after so long away it brought him happiness every time he transversed the border between his pack and the rest ofghe world. HIS pack. His to lead, his to protect. But he had seen how fragile his own existence was, and the pack depended so strongly upon a clear leadership. In the time he had failed to do so, it had all bunfallen apart. If something happened, if he died after all, he needed to leave the pack with a sense of continuity. Ideally he would leave it to his own heir... But as Abraxas had not yet seen fit to craft him some spawn from the dust at his paws and he had not put in the effort to aquire a mate yet, he had no heir. But he himself had not been his father's heir - Pyrrhic was. After all that he had put his brother though... Perhaps it was fitting that he had decided to make Pyrrhic's remaining child heir to the pack Pyrrhic himself had been destined to lead.
It was such introspection that occupied him, as Eligos left the land at the edge of the ravine to follow the border where it continued into the lakelands.
