Come Together

Sure, tapir could run pretty fast but that only did them well if enough distance to get to a hiding spot before the wolf got to them.  They were quietly moving closer, Rudy’s gaze watched his prey carefully.  When Fern moved Rudy moved.  The male knew her timing well enough to smoothly split opposite direction of her to get the tapir between them.  When the tapir turns back to them Rudy takes another stride still forward, allowing it to escape him.  The other wolves were there with him and as long as they followed it should have their prey ringed around them.  This certainly wasn’t how he generally would hunt a tapir but he’d never hunted one with so many other wolves.

Running back in Rudy would snap at its back leg, tasting blood but the creature pulled away fast to limit the damage done.  Rudy wouldn’t label it dead until it was unable to run.  More wolves in a hunt didn’t always mean a better hunt.  Hopefully, the group worked well together in all of this.
