Having kids wasn’t all it was made out to be. Modesty had expected it to be a breeze, that her bad moods would evaporate once she could breathe again, but from the first time those tiny mouths had nuzzled against her chest she knew this was some bullshit. She wasn’t overcome with a wave of love, instead her stomach churned and irritation burned at the back of her mind. If it hadn’t been for Gilgamesh’s obvious adoration of the little brats she probably would have abandoned them in the wilds long ago. The fact that he left her alone with them only bought the idea to the forefront of her mind again…

But she was missing out on a meeting, and that probably meant she was missing out on a legitimate chance to turf them off onto someone else, even if it was only for a few hours. Maybe she’d even pick up a terrible wound and would have a legitimate reason to make them someone elses problem… like their dads!

She stood quickly without care where the children that had been nuzzled against her fell. She might have even ‘accidentally’ stepped on the one with the sharp claws that dared to glow. Urgh. Of course her kids would get everything she ever wanted. At least the ones that were left seemed to have been adequately blessed by the gods and she’d done her part. She would never have to do it again!

Making her way in quietly, she sat alongside her fiancé and tried to look a little less miserable than she felt. Maybe once the meeting was done she’d harass Hyacinth to share some of his stash with her. Maybe drinking would chase some of her misery away.

Mention of a volcano tweaked something at the back of her mind, but it was gone as quickly as it came. Her smile was a genuine one as she nodded her agreement to take part, not particularly caring who the kids were foisted onto. She was ready to stretch her legs.
