Its in the trees

Tove hides under the broad ivy leaves, waiting for Kotori to get into position. Their eyes meet and a nod shared before he turns back to the unsuspecting elk. A moment later, he leaps out, startling the young elk almost out of its skin, and then they are both rushing toward her, the alarmed, tall, young elk being herd on by the horned wolf. In her hiding spot, Tove coils her muscles preparing to leap out, mind calculating the perfect moment to strike.

Hooves thunder while silent paws move across the ground, forcing the elk to barrel toward the ambush spot and right into the waiting jaws of the trap. Tove leaps from her hiding spot at the precise moment that the young elk’s neck comes into striking range, her nebula-hued body launching upward as Kotori strikes at the back leg. Teeth close around the side of the young elk’s neck and, as gravity pulls her paws back to the earth, she rips open a mortal wound on its neck.

It bellows in fear as its body crumples and Tove darts out of the way of its falling body. The young elk tries to thrash, aiming to strike at the wolves that killed it but it only serves to help it bleed out faster. Great ragged breathes slow and stop and the young elk’s life succumbs to the hunters work.
