stupid slippery shimmer

Night had long fallen upon him and while Zephyr knew better then to stay out so late, he also knew he could not come home without his prize. It felt like he'd been on the shimmering shore for hours wading through the shallow waves, watching the trail of faint blue-green bio-luminescence chase his every movement, and desperately trying in whatever way he could to collect some of it to bring home to his mother. It was absolutely baffling to the young bird, who had tried grasping upon the glow with his talons, scooping it with his now-soggy wings, and even stabbing at the stuff with his curved beak. Nothing worked, he always came up wet and miserable, cold and devoid of any and all glow. He had even tried moving further down the winding shore and deeper into the frigid water in hopes that he'd find somewhere the bio-luminescence was somehow thicker. No luck.

In an angry rage, the fledging bird began to tantrum. Splashing his talons, flapping his wings and stabbing at the ocean with his beak, Zephyr attacked the water with the sort of undignified fury only a child could embody. If he wasn't bringing home a beautiful glowing adornment to Briar then he was at least going to let nature know the price of betrayal.
