The bear was flagging, getting frustrated by the three on one battle, and as its hind leg buckled under the Abraxas man’s bite, it twisted to sit on its haunches and protect its rear, swiping for the cream painted earthen man before Ardyn slammed into the bear with his armored shoulder, and brought the beast’s attention back to himself.
The next swipe he wasn’t so lucky as to avoid, and be felt the bite of claws sinking through his fur into his skin as he twisted away, neck stinging with that ticklish sensation of blood welling and starting to trickle from the set of four scratches.
Golden ichor spattered the red stone, and he rolled his eyes with a faint, rueful grin, already hearing the fretful scolding of his sisters as they patched him up later.
The bear, heartened by landing a blow, chased after the black flame-coated king, and Ardyn doubled back, leaving an opening if Asmodeus was able to take it, then ducked around to slash his sabers for the bear’s throat. He felt the drag on his canines and dug in, ripping free and dancing several strides away as the bear staggered with a bellow that sent blood spattering the wall.
The bear was fatally wounded bleeding freely. The previous wounds it had gained sped the process up and Ardyn kept his distance as the animal weakened, checking over Asmodeus to be sure the blood on the man’s face was from the bear and not his own.
The bear collapsed and wheezed, eyes glazing. Ardyn’s own fire and ice gaze flicked around and landed on a solid rock. It was better to end the beast’s suffering, and he didn’t have anything on him to pierce its heart or skull. So the rock he lifted in his nimble, hand-like paws and brought down with a heavy slam on the bear’s head, until he heard the crunch and saw the violent spasms.
He stepped back, out of reach and settled on his haunches, regarding Asmodeus with a wry grin as he ran a paw over the wounds on his own neck, checking his pads before flicking the molten gold blood from his digits with a sniff.

Ardyn at first glance is as black as can be imagined with a raven sheen.
Closer inspection proves that he shimmers in fire tones in every hair on his hide right down to his lashes.
More obviously, he glows like a bed of coals and flames with every movement and brush of fur. His tail is usually wagging, so blazes like a torch.
His adult teeth are in and his saber canines have grown to their full length (see profile). His mane and tail hair have grown to full length, as well as being lightweight and easily buffeted by breezes.
A look at his front paws will give the impression of hands, with his dew claw dropped low and lengthened into a functioning thumb, and his toes elongated into fingers. He has retractable, solid black cat-like claws on every paw.
Ardyn has developed a glowing mast of intricate markings in fire and ice colors over his face, symmetrical over the last seasons of Year 17 (see profile for details). During hunts or raids/sieges, he will smudge them out with black soot to cover the glow, otherwise, they are bright enough to note at first direct glance at his face. Not all his artwork currently portrays the mask markings.
He is also often bedecked in beads, small bells, feathers in blues, ribbons and braids thanks to the Ooze Event of Halloween 2021, and the Coathanger item that he got. The accessories generally are seen most in his mane and tail hair. He removes the brighter items and bells for hunts or battle.
