Kill vs. maim

Kotori had fought endless battles with different partners in fighting bears and other predators which taught him more than just how to kill. Kotori knew how to be a team player and it didn’t matter how he felt about the other wolf. He didn’t know this female and had no personal attachment to her but so long as this battle was in play it was his job to help his partner remain safe. He wasn’t some good-natured saint that wandered about saving any life.
Kotori saw the woman get on the bear's back and he took one step towards the bear's face, watching with a smug smile, apparently aware the bear was to busy to deal with him and yet for some reason not attacking yet. Then it happened, the bear rearing up. Kotori charged in the second the bear stood taller, tucking his chin in so that he stabbed the bear's belly with his horns and smoothly kept his body moving to aim for a bite at the bear's neck.
Unfortunately, he only had time for the slashing horns before the bear tried to practically topple on him with the desire to smash Kotori. The bear was in a rage at this point with the various points of damage and pain it felt. Its foolish head swung between the two wolves roaring as if to try and scare them away. It seemed to have finally realized the flaw in dealing with two wolves at once.
The bear had paused its attack plan apparently, more concerned with defense.
