Sharpen the Knife

The woman agreed swiftly, and March too was grateful they had gotten to the point of the interaction quickly. She was not an impatient wolf, simply an unsocialised one. Any attempt at small talk would be stunted and slow, and she feared it'd leave a negative impression too early. She much preffered to demonstrate her worth with her quick pace and sharp teeth, not with honeyed words and empty exaggerations. Maybe her opponent was the same.

March was startled by the sudden approach, embarrassed by the way her muscles springed in aimless reaction, no thought or preparation behind her movements. She had surrendered control of the fight from the moment it began, and she knew what it could cost her. Though this time, this was more about learning than winning, and she felt that the woman would not hold her inexperience against her. Or at least, she hoped so.

She recoiled back, a pointless, frightened backstep costing her precious time. Her opponent shifted trajectory towards March's flank, a strong forearm rearing back to strike her shoulder. Knowing the window for a counter was slipping, she tried to lean into the offense as much as she could, shoving her shoulder towards the body of her opponent in a forceful shove, hoping that her momentum might throw her attacker's balance off instead, or at the very least keep her own.
