The mightiest roar. The littlest squeak

Kite had been out of the den for a week now. She’d learned to avoid the Col during daylight hours, which pushed her into a more nocturnal life-style. During the day, when she wasn’t sleeping, she crept through the caves. On one such excursion she had overheard the Warlord Azure’s disgruntled voice speaking of the weakness in the Sirius litter. The weakness that was herself, and two other of her siblings.
Slitting her crystal eyes, the girl had slunk back into the darkness, and thought and planned. She had spent a week with her Reaper father, learning how to fight in the late evenings when the harsh light was fading. A week to learn how to scramble at the giant Warlord's legs, or bite his tail. She had even pulled on his scruff while he had roared in pain. She had won! And she was ready. Ready for this.
She strolled out into the heart of the pack, near the campfire. Puffing up her little chest, and looking up at the half-moon sky. Would he come, if she called? There was only one way to find out. She tossed back her head and let out the mightiest cry she could. Engoring the squeak of youth in it as she summoned the Warlord.
