Kotori looked at the older wolf musing over how she seemed to show up recently when he went hunting. Maybe he should offer her a position in his pack later? She was willing to work and follow his head which Kotori always appreciated. The more wolves who accepted his leadership the less Kotori felt a need to press for others to accept his status.
He nodded to the wolf and moved slowly to the best position that would line him up with the youngster that would be chasing him farther away from the herd. Even if they were to hunt the young one, this would be no small feat. The adults were a real threat in this case but real threats were good fun.
He thought of telling Eulogy to get on the opposite side of him but then changed the tactic. “follow behind me. I’ll get between the young one and the adults. Most likely they’ll want to defend it. I’ll deal with them. While I deal with the adults you continue chasing the little one farther away. I’ll help soon as I can. Up until I join in just focus on distancing it from them however far you can.”
Kotori jogged a short distance then broke out into a long-legged stride run towards the herd. Sure enough, the herd wanted to get to the child and call it to them. Kotori ran between, snarling and snapping at the giant buffalo, dancing to avoid being slammed into. He wasn’t going to seriously fight the monsters, not when it was a herd versus one wolf but he would keep them busy while Eulogy did her job.
